With our team having expressed the importance of the preservation of Yaxley’s Manorial Records for some time now, it’s very encouraging to see that the Yaxley Parish Council have now entered into talks with the Huntingdonshire Archives.  This month Chairman Kevin Gulson, accompanied by Yaxleyhistory.org’s Margaret Long traveled to the Huntingdonshire Library and Archives to explore options.

The Manorial Records, whilst mostly comprised of administrative data is nevertheless an important collection of documents and has been deteriorating in its current location in the repository in the Yaxley Parish Council Chambers.

Richard Anderson of the Huntingdonshire Archives will be presenting a case for the preservation of the records at the next full Yaxley Parish Council meeting during the public forum. The meeting scheduled for the 8th July at the Parish Council Chambers and is open to the public.

Whilst we greet this move with enthusiasm, our direct suggestion to the Yaxley Parish Council has been to ensure that the Manorial Records are not rehoused without first being digitally scanned and subsequently made publicly accessible through our archives.
